Pest control tip: Protecting yourself from bed bugs

by editor on June 9, 2011

The occurrence of bed bugs has been increasing over the years with no signs of slowing down. What was once thought to be a bug that only invaded low-income homes has been found in college dormitories, hotels and high-end apartment buildings. With the cases of bed bugs increasing, what can you do to protect yourself and your home from these parasites?

  • Wash any clothing that is coming into your home. Even if it’s your own and you’ve been staying in a hotel or a friend’s home, make sure to wash your clothes so that any opportunistic bed bugs that have hitched a ride on your clothes can be eliminated.
  • Be wary of used furniture. Pest control experts suspect the reason for the rapid increase in bed bugs is because of people bringing used furniture into their homes.
  • Keep air ducts closed when possible. If one person in the apartment building has bed bugs, chances are everyone is going to have them.

If you’ve discovered bed bugs have already invaded your home, your only choice is to contact your local Florida pest control company. These stubborn bugs have developed a resistance to many types of Florida pesticides and only a professional will know exactly what to do in order to get your home Florida pest-free.
